i love suiattle, even though it almost tried to kill me last year. i'm interested. no chance for me to be awesome, as i absolutely cannot get friday off, but i'd *really* love to pull the all-night ride from Seattle again. this requires two things: 1) riding companions because i believe in the buddy system. 2) a car-ride back. do either of the other midnight riders care to repeat last year's insanity? will anyone have extra space for a bike and camping gear on the way back?

in the event that this doesn't work, i'd be happy to join you on that hike, sweeney.

+1. This would be a lot of fun.

I could help someone rent a car if they'd like to do the driving part of this plan.

I see you are trying to write a first post. Let me help you out here.

1. Try introducing yourself, especially if you've been on a ride. Then we can link faces with usernames.
2. This thread is often handy. http://point83.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10&start=280

the thursday departure is probably 4-5pm. my plan was to catch the sounder to everett at 5pm or 530 and then ride from everett out to verlot to camp.

the 510 also heads up to Everett, literally right next to the sounder station. However, I have recently discovered that transfers are no longer interchangeable between Metro KC and Sound Transit :(.

And alas, I will be unable to make it - I have a previous obligation.

here's the thread from last year: http://point83.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8492&highlight=suiattle

we ended up leaving after the green lake race. i think our departure time was around 1 am on friday night/saturday morning and we rolled into camp sometime before noon (i think?). i'd like to maintain that schedule - it put us in arlington around 6 am for a good breakfast and got us into camp early enough to grab some zzzzs before campfire shenanigans started.

I'm highly tempted by the Verlot plan (thought I'd be parking somewhere up there and coming home on Saturday morning), but I may also have something brewing for the following week that would override this. So I'm a maybe.

Pretty much spot on. 7-11 in Snoqualmie at around 4am for snacks and coffee (it got cold that night), brekkie in Arlington at 6am, car-parking area about 11:15, campsite right around noon. I feel like we hauled pretty well, it ened up being roughly 115 miles. I was cashed out by the time we got to camp, needed a soak in the river then a nice nap before evening festivities. After bonking the year before my motto was eat early, eat often, which was a good idea.

Thanks for pulling up that old thread, the pics on page 3 are great motivation, so beautiful out there.

Sorry! This is Katy.
I have been on nearly a dozen rides (I think).
I tried to upload a photo or two but apparently I am inept.
And 5:00 is awesome.

Katy is awesome! And her helmet broke Kyleen's and my fall last Thursday! RIP helmet.

I predict I'm gonna be pretty busy that weekend, so I'm a maybe but maybe.

I can see the nature commentary:

"The babbling waters cradle the cold cans, as they huddle for warmth and stability. The creek can be an unforgiving place for the weak, the crystalline liquid cascades without concern for their wellfare - but the strong can remain fresh and hoppy to perpetuate the school."

if i can do this with you guys i think i need panniers and stuff- none of which i have, and with which i've never ridden. does anyone have extras i could borrow for the weekend? i'd also need to bolt the racks onto my bike.

forgive my ignorance; i don't know yet how all this gear stuff works! any help would be greatly appreciated, and will be repaid in tasty consumables of your choice (no babies).

Not too hard to set up, just an initial up front cost and then you use em for life.

Buy one of these:

And put it on your bike with some of these:

You can also make panniers out of buckets if you're looking for a low cost option: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?o=1gci&doc_id=1841&v=v

Good luck, bike touring is the shit!

Thinking I may be a yes for this...

A midnight ride sounds tempting, but I have a birthday party in the Skagit Valley on Saturday I must attend, so I am out on the all night ride.however, I may be able to assist with the car ride bike if I drive out Saturday after my birthday shenanigans. My bike rack only fits 2 bikes so may be limited to shuttling 2 back unless someone has a larger bike rack that would fit on my toyota corolla.

Much stuff need to go in your trunk? I'm pretty sure one bike could be broken down and go in there.

I should be able to help you with gear loaning and such (I own far too much bike camping gear). I also live close to your work.
