From what i could tell, there was very little friction between the two groups

The lower friction was great. Did anyone have issues with Cascade people on the ride? No one said anything to me, or even asked about the pirate flags.

The only attention I got was positive - people yelling "Arr!". Man, what a great ride. Thanks to everyone involved in the planning and preparation.

Though today hurts quite a lot. I think I broke my liver.

That explains a lot. From inside the cabin I expected it was a couple of the usual suspects, not a dirty dozen.

Is that Pete Jr there, with his pants all the way down?
He was clearly more dedicated than the rest of us...

Great fucking ride guys. Lots of fun, a bit of pain. I wonder if the captain of the ferry went home and told his friends about "pull up your pants or get off the boat". I bet he did.

I didn't realize there were that many either. I can see why the captain already had an eye on them. The 2nd hand information on the ferry suggested it was just Gretchen who had mooned and I was a little surprised the captain was so anxious to give her that ultimatum.

How did coming home go?

Jeff said at the Owl and Thistle: My wife came and ate then left. She said 'Don't come home too drunk.' Too late.

Vashon is great, road or off-road. Not much for bike camping that I know of though.

Also, I talked to the guys at Classic Cycle. They got about three to four times the normal Sunday business. Probably didn't hurt that they were about 50 meters past that first right hand turn off the ferry.

I counted three derailleur breaks in the thirty minutes I was in the shop. For Teh Lose.

No Vashon camping was implied or intended Matthew. My thinking was more along the lines of meet for the 10ish ferry, ride for 3-4 hours, get some beers and lunch, and go home.

I'll start another thread.

And thanks from me as well for a fun time.

Really appreciate all Derrick's work with the prize pile, and thanks to Lee for keeping me company until his pinch flat up Baker Hill.

Sorry I got in too late for any of Nygaard's Special Reserve or Mild, and very sorry I didn't get to see his Unholy Mantis bike.

Good times, see you guys next year.

Private chili party and bike viewing? I stayed home last minute due to poor feeling wife and dog. I'm sorry to have missed it, but glad the chili was well received. I'll double up next year and will need 20 pounds of ground beef to do so. Man you all eat a lot.

A pinch flat on those tires? What happened to 'I can run them on 4 PSI'?

I had no idea it was that many either. I was inside and heard the captain and thought "oh there's that scott (robinson) being a trouble maker."

I just wanted to give a final thanks to everyone for setting a good example of how to ride while having fun. I double checked with the Cascade Ride Refs to see what the view was from their saddle and they had this to say:

Quote:
No problems with the .83 pirates. They passed me with due care and a 'onyerleft'. Better road manners that most of the other riders.

As an aside, that is what the Ref volunteer job is mostly about, encouraging good road manners, asking the newbies to stay to the right, pass on the left, move off the road when they stop, call out 'on your left' when passing, etc. Their job isn't to put an APB out for helmet-less riders or give tickets. Being a Ref is also an easy way to get into Cascade rides for free.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for the great time and I'm glad those kids with the pellet guns didn't hit any of us and didn't seriously hurt anyone else.

http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2009/feb/23/bainbridge-teens-accused-of-shooting-at-bike/

Bainbridge Island

Two Bainbridge Island teenagers were arrested Sunday for allegedly shooting a pellet gun at cyclists on Hidden Cove Road during the Chilly Hilly bicycling event.

Cyclists told police that a group of teenage boys had been shooting at cyclists from a wooded hill area. Witnesses told police that the suspects had fired an air rifle, retreated, and then fired from other nearby locations.

Only one cyclist reported being hit by the pellets, but she was unhurt and continued to pedal. An event-support van also was hit by pellets, its driver said.

A police officer saw youths fleeing and apprehended one at a baseball field near Cambridge Crest Way. The other was caught at an undisclosed location. Both were cited for reckless endangerment and obstructing police. The event's organizers are working with police to locate other witnesses or victims.

Bill is the king of the near-recalls. First with the Salsa, now with the Dahon.

Basically I am in idiot when it comes to doing things right the first time. The 4th and 5th? sure, but the first? Not so much.
