Well now, looks like the "FUCK THE HILLS" race just got a little more ... racy?
http://pugetsoundblogs.com/bainbridge-conversation/2009/02/02/prostitution-arrests-reveal-a-larger-sex-trade-on-bainbridge/
Prostitution arrests reveal a larger sex trade on Bainbridge
The four women arrested at a Bainbridge Island hotel over the weekend likely represent only a fraction of the island’s illicit sex trade, according to Bainbridge police.
“If we had more time and resources, I think people would be horrifically surprised by the number of arrests we could have made,” Det. Trevor Ziemba said, referring to the scope of prostitution activity police uncovered in a multi-agency investigation and sting operation. |

I (heart) Bainbridge.
The comments on that linked blog are hillarious. Especially since there's a "$$ STOP COBI TAX NOW$$" sign someone put in my front lawn right now. |

| Cafe Metropolitain on Olive Way is sponsoring us in a very very great way. Let's head up there one of these days for a drink on a ride to say thanks. Chase and Ryan hooked that one up. |

While I won't deny that there are yuppies on the island, I'm pretty sure we're not all yuppies. And please expound on "hypocrite fauxtopia". It's not for everyone, but it is a nice quiet neighborhood, and friendly to cyclists, and generally people are friendly and welcoming.
Also, I'd like to point that all four of the girls arrested were not from the island, and the clients are a pretty fair cross section of the Puget Sound. According to the article, the prostitution was happening on Bainbridge not because of a large clientele, but because no one suspected such a thing happens there. |

I work on the island. It's nice that I can ride my bike there and yes, there are even some people who live there who aren't yuppies. There isn't exactly a surplus of affordable housing, but I digress. I think it's fun when information comes to light that contradicts the wholesome, safe, quiet neighborhood image that the community projects. Some Bainbridge Islanders take that image a little too far, into the realm of self-righteousness, and this rubs me the wrong way. |

I can definitely see that, so fair enough.
Changing subjects a bit here: so the Chilly Hilly route definitely isn't the fastest route around the island. Is there really anything to stop someone from pulling a Professor Dave and winning? |

Manuel (who rides with us on occasion) works over at Full Speed Ahead FSA and is sponsoring us again this year. They're getting us another great bundle of stems, handlebars, bottom brackets, and more.
give him a big thank you next time you see him out. |

How many times do you need to hear "You're going the wrong way" before it gets real old? Is 9000 times enough? |

The question is, will laughing 9000 times make me fall off my bike.
I'm considering it. I bet the trains to portland are relatively empty. I tend to organize everything last minute with people who have registered with me that they are into last minute adventures, rather than promise to a pile of riders that my stupid idea will be fun. |

Can somebody please fabricate up a floor-pump-powered potato gun to mount on October's bow? Yarr!!!!
By the way, Jackie would be showing up at Eagle Harbor for the FHR, but I'll be selling produce from my sailboat that day. Besides, October is WAY more of a pirate-looking ship. |

You mean floor pump as in the kind you use to inflate dinghies?
What's the cutoff pressure on one of those, and what size nozzle does it have? |

I'm normally fairly anti-headphones when riding bikes - I like to be able to hear traffic.
But the STP seems like the definition of a ride that's improved by a soundtrack.
Can the Cascade motorcycle dudes even give tickets? |

No they can't. They are just volunteers from a Honda Goldwing Touring club.
If you have a Cascade bib, the most that can happen is that someone will take down your bib number and you might get a warning or banned from buying a bib for future Cascade events.
That said, I'd encourage use of http://www.ihomeaudio.com/products.asp?product_id=10186 or some other speaker system. Otherwise if I end up serving as a Ride Ref (which gets you in to CBC rides for free) and I see you, I'll make sure to test your hearing. If you can't hear my voice, I have an AirZound. :)
Personally I have no problem with earbuds as long as you can hear my calling "on your left" when I'm passing you on a downhill. |
