I just noticed tonight that there is a parking space on University Ave just south of the Knarr and in front of R+E cycles. Does this mean bike parking in the road? There weren't any racks in the road, but I think that would be cool.

i seem to remember a rack there at some point in the past. But after living in that hood (right behind the Knarr) for like 7 years, it prolly got stolen and sold for scrap to support somebodies extracurricular activities.
maybe one day that stretch of the ave wont be the shit skid in the bottom of the toilet bowl |

| we "parked" there once before, and there wasn't a rack on the road, but there was one on the sidewalk with a couple of (bent) posts protecting it. way to go city! |

It is the oldest and as far as I know only on street bike parking in Seattle.
Portland is doing it all over. Bike parking is a problem in PDX in some "walkable" neighborhoods. Val and I have been discussing getting the same done in front of my shop. I have an email into Grace Crunican, the director of SDOT, but so far no response. She probably has her hands full right now with the I-5 shut down and responses from our gov't take at least a month these days anyway. It may be just a pipe dream for now.
Last time we-all were at the Knarr I did notice the bike rack on the street had been removed and an SUV was parked in the spot.
On principal I think we need the bike rack moved back into the street.
It sets a precident for other places in the city. |
