Neil here, finally have my own login..
Thanks so much for packing the courtroom today everyone.. the 27 of us definitely got their attention... it was a real show of force and solidarity. I'm nearly certain it helped sway the bail hearing. Given the allegations of the police, judge Kato was probably going by the book, but Zack's bail was on the low end of that scale.
Now the real work begins...
We'll know on Thursday afternoon if there are formal charges or not. So stay tuned for that. And passing a hat at the next ride to contribute to legal fees will help tons too...
This is why I love bicycles..
UPDATE 9:15p: Per our lawyer, Ian: Witnesses can talk to the press. Contact the Stranger through their slog posting, looks like Josh Feit is picking this one up. If you saw it go down, especially the beginning, you are so important to this. Thanks.

Hey all -
I'm so happy to report that Zack got to enjoy a most beautiful sunset at Myrtle Edwards park this evening. Freedom!! He is doing very well and said that seeing everyone at his hearing really lifted his spirits.
As was posted above....
WITNESS REPORTS: We now have a Sunday, 4 p.m. deadline. Please get them into Charles at Wright Bros or call me to pick them up. Our lawyer is preparing the case Sunday evening for a court appearance Monday morning so he needs all the evidence possible and to call witnesses Sunday evening. This appearance will likely determine whether the charges will be a felony or misdemeanor. Felonies are bad and we know that Zack does not deserve that charge. Please do what you can to help.
PICTURES: I've only received pics from 4 people. I know there are more out there! I don't care how irrelevant you think they are, send them along.
THE PRESS: The Stranger has picked up this story and other papers may as well. If you were a witness please contact them per the info above. Both lawyers we've been working with said to go to town with this. It needs to get out.
Does this beat the TdF drug scandal or what??!?!?!! :)

He hasn't been formally charged yet, but the things he's being investigated for are really small. They let him out without a bail or hearing, and said they'd send him something in the mail if they decided to prosecute. |

I just got an email from Zack's dad. They need all the witnesses they can to get their statements in by 4 pm today in an effort to keep Zack from being charged with a felony (if he is even charged, he'll have to answer yes to the question "have you ever been charged with a felony" for ever).
If anyone can contact mike.hahn or a_lurker who posted on this list, and have them get those statements in, that'd be excellent. Also, pleaser have them email me as I am trying to get as many people who are willing to talk to the media together as possible. My email is cmonster at gmail dot com.

| WITNESSES, when you are writing your report, please note when these men identified themselves as KC officers, if at all, or if it was known at any time whether they were KC officers. This is the most crucial part of the case. |

| I have video, the file size of which is unfortunately too large to email. It is of the later portion of the altercation, when the riders were already down on the ground. If this would be of use to the case, I can burn it on a cdr and pass it along to someone connected. |

That's the guy from the NYC critical mass lawsuit I was telling you about - he just moved here this year, he rides a folding bike (grey with a KEXP sticker), his name is John I think. I don't have any contact info for him, but if you post this description of him around, you might find him. He's definitely the type to want to help. |

Hotte burned 2 copies of the video and it came out really well. It picks up when Zack is still on the ground and then taken away in the van. We'll give it to the lawyer this evening. Can I get Sebastian's phone number as well as the name and number of fellow who is in front of the camera and narrating his video? I believe I met him at yesterday's hearing, but I don't know if I got his info. Please call me cuz I'll be offline after 3:30 p.m.

I'll let Charlie (a.k.a. axis42, phone seven-one-five-eight-zero-one-two)be the media coordinator for us since that's what he does. I did just talk to the P-I and the reporter is interested in talking to witnesses and I sent out an email to several of them already. We are VERY interested in getting this into a paper like the P-I for more exposure, even exposure tomorrow. So if you can share what you saw please contact Charlie so he can put you in touch with the P-I.

Hey all,
We've got a good reporter on the case at the PI as well as a good one on the case at the Stranger. Anyone who is willing to talk to the media that I haven't already spoken with should give me a call at the above number or email me at cmonster at gmail dot com.
with your help we will give this story giant legs and get it in all the media and bring some hard pressure down on the cops who attacked Zack and Jace and maybe even affect some positive change.

The witness reports that have been brought in (about a dozen so far) are really important. If anyone else still feels like they might have something relevent to say PLEASE write it up and bring it by Wright Brothers in Fremont, or get it to Jill, or somebody who can get it to us.
The sooner the better. Important things are being decided in the next few days.
What you can say could make all the difference in how this plays out. I firmly believe that the net outcome from this can be positive.

Folks, thanks to your caring, efforts, involvement and quick thinking, we are very much getting attention in the press right now which is a HUGE boon to Zack's case and to getting some positive change to come out of this traumatizing and disgusting incident.
The lawyer on Zack's case authorized the publishing of photos and as of right now, the first photos to be released to the press have been published to The Stranger's blog: http://www.thestranger.com/blog/
They're pretty graphic and show some intent to casue pain if you ask me. Please do check them out and publicize that link far and wide (along with the link to the PI article as well -- mainstream attention is really helpful too).
Video, for now, has not been released and we want to remind folks with video that they should please not post it on the Internet or bring it to any media outlets. Doing so could harm Zack and Jace's cases and we really don't want to do that. The time will come when the lawyer says it is ok to publish them, and we will, but he needs to see them and evaluate them from a legal standpoint first. Until then, if you have a video of the incident and Jill hasn't heard about it or gotten it yet, please get in touch with her or with me so she can get it to the lawyer ASAP. Finally, if anyone saw what happened, is willing to talk to the press and hasn't yet done so, please email me your contact information.

holy jesus.
i just got back into town from astoria and read all that went down. zack, you are incredible for jumping to jaces aide there, from what the situation was, it sounds like you were just helping a friend and didnt have a clue that they were police... i hope everything turns out for the best here, ill be getting lee some financial help for you soon. i woulda been there at the court hearings if i was in town.
hopefully the city will see it from your side and throw all this out the window. |

It was in the King County press release, but none of the stories I've heard included this. It's the thing I'm most curious about in this whole thing, whether that's true and ommitted by all the witnesses or whether ithat was fabricated by the deputes. I imagine it'll be one of the largest deciding factors in the case. |

I wasn't close enough to be a witness, but I definitely did not hear any sirens. The only reason I noticed this was due to the fact that a large portion of the pack had just stopped for an unknown reason, and I went back to look.
Think I would have heard a siren, though. |

My girlfriend and I were close to the incident. Neither of us heard any sirens but one of my roomates did say she heard them, after everything went down of course!
I hope all unfolds for the best. It's too bad there are so many ignorant assholes out there! |

i was crossing the intersection as the thing began and didn't hear a siren until jace and zack were inside the van. no one with whom i spoke knew these guys were cops until an unnecessary amount of force had been used.
this, of course, is included in my statement, for which i missed sunday's deadline, but plan to submit as soon as it can be accepted. |

let me re-phrase....
there were short spurts of sirens after the whole thing was over and we started moving towards ballard, but there were not any before or while the arresting happened.
if anyone heard them later/after the fact it was because there were short *bleeps* after zack and jace were arrested and the van was moving out.
i did not hear any going up the hill from alaskan or while the pile up was happening. |
