Seriously though, besides those parking tickets and restraining order issues, the guy got booked for possession of stolen property in Shoreline on 6/7. This man's a real chicken dinner.
Get the cops involved, they should already have his information in the system so there should be fewer forms to fill out. |

just talked with Gretchen - she got her bike back! Someone camped out on that dickwads doorstep last night and this morning caught him as he was leaving.

Gretchen asked that I pull all my stuff from this thread last night so we didn't spook bike thief. So I buttoned it all up in a blog entry she could give to the investigating detective - if it reads kinda stilted, that's why. Now that this is over and done with, I might as well repost.

Tuesday August 7 - The following day someone on Craigslist is selling a bike remarkably similar to Gretchens for an unbelievably cheap price; $350 first come first serve. Alarm bells go off and many of us in Point83 and elsewhere recognize what is going on and respond to the ad, hoping to reclaim the bike. Obviously this is the (dumb) bike thief trying to sell it quickly.

I didn't get a screenshot of the Craigslist post, but the individual used pictures from Bikehugger below to describe the bike and simply said it looks like the attached pictures.

Lame, but we have 2 leads come of it.
Lead 1: Jayone (Point83 forum name) sends me a PM saying he received an email from a "Mike Lopez (PAINTINGTHENORTHWEST)" stating he has the bike and wants to sell it. Posing as buyers we tried to get the seller/thief to meet us at the QFC in Magnolia (his CL posts stated he was in Magnolia). I sat in the parking lot by myself for about 25 minutes with Jake in his truck behind me and Joby and Kristen one row over on backup. Guy was a no show.
Lead 2: Nick2 (Point83 forum name) sends me a PM saying the seller/thief has sent him at text message from 206 306 6210, asking to meet at the Miller Community Center at 19th and Thomas that evening. Nick calls me and I tell him to set it up. Nick sends a reply text message asking for a time to meet, but the seller does not reply.
Wednesday August 8 - Since we were out of leads and I have some time to burn, I start digging.
1.) (206) 306-6210 phone number is registered to an individual named SAMUEL KIFLU (White Pages Lookup)
2.) SAMUEL KIFLU is on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/samuel.kiflu.5 and is listed as the owner of NORTHWEST PAINTING. A business that's stated to have begun in 2009 according to Facebook.
3.) According to the State of Washington Department of Revenue NORTHWEST PAINTING was owned by SAMUEL W KIFLU and was in legal operation from 2007 through 2009 in Ellensburg. (So there's our 3rd party confirmation of the Facebook claim.)

4.) According to public records (via intelius.com public search engine)
SAMUEL W KIFLU
DOB Nov 20, 1986
Last known address - 901 E 18th Ave, Ellensburg Wa 98926
This gives us our 3rd party verification of the Ellensburg Address and a reliable DOB.
5.) According to the Washington Labor and Industry, SAMUEL KIFLU lists his place of business (NORTH WEST PAINTING) to be at 1821 E Mercer St Apt 4, Seattle Wa 98112 as of 2010. This is an apartment building - presumably his residence, and this is the most important piece because....

6.) This address is 2 blocks away from the MILLER COMMUNITY CENTER where we were asked (via text) to meet the seller/thief with the bike the night before.
7.) Final detail. Nick2 sends me a text that says he forgot to forward the picture of the bike the seller sent him last night in text. Gretchen confirms that this is her bike and we can see it too; Same tires, rims, brakes, pedal straps, etc. I've personally worked on this bike. It's the same bike.
Here's my Sherlock Holmes summation: I think SAMUEL KIFLU started Northwest Painting in Ellensburg in 2007 and moved to Seattle in 2009 but did not renew his business license. I think Mike Lopez is either a roommate or employee of KIFLU - or it is simply an email alias for KIFLU. I think KIFLU runs his unlicensed painting business here in Seattle but it's probably little more than a van and a set of business cards at this point. I think he/they were doing a painting job near Gretchen's bike for a day or two, spied the bike and cut the lock with the tools in the van that he/they then drove the bike away in.
If the bike hasn't been sold or ditched already, then I bet it's in the apartment of 1821 E Mercer St Apt 4, or a work van, or a storage unit used to hold paint tools. I think the seller was going to walk the bike to the nearby Miller Community Center so we wouldn't be able to associate his home address with the sale. I think he got spooked with all the responses he was getting to his ad and didn't show up. Several people have since come forward to report being approached by a Mike Lopez about this bike as well.
I hope the detectives move quickly and this bike recovered.
Incidentally here are the municipal records for SAMUEL KIFLU as well.

Thursday August 9 8:30am UPDATE: BIKE RECOVERED!!!! Someone (names redacted - AHEM JOHN T) camped out on this guys doorstep last night and this morning when he came out of his apartment building, had a chat with him. Dude gave up the bike and it's back in Gretchen's possession.

Just for brevity, this is how it went down.
Bike stolen -> Craigslist post -> Email & Text reply -> Phone number - > Real Name -> Facebook account -> Business Name -> Old expired business License, DOB, hometown, old address -> Municipal records and new expired business license, current address that was 2 blocks from where the text asked us to meet to look at the bike -> Face to face conversation -> Bike returned. |
