| I am absolutely LIVID right now at Josh Feit. That sonofabitch traitor. I am completely stunned at what he wrote. He doesn't know the fucking truth about why Zack isn't pressing charges and made his own god dammned ignorant judgement call on it. |

Yeah that pissed me off to know end. Fucking Stranger always trying to stir up shit where there is none.
His logic is: Zack is not pressing charges. Black people often suffer abuse at the hands of over-zealous cops. There for racism is involved.
Huh? |

This is typical trigger-happy Feit bullshit. The SLOG is unedited IIRC, so asshat statements like this that would normally get smacked slide through.
He's done a significant amount to gander positive press, don't light him on fire just yet. |

nah. light the fire.
Feit pulls shit like this all the time. He's often a bad journalist who tries to make news instead of reporting it. Giving him a tool like a blog does subject him to less oversight than usual because of the nature of blogs, but I am sure that BS like this would work its way into an article in the paper as well. Afterall, the editor of The Stranger is only Dan Savage... not a man known for his journalistic abilities as much as he is for being able to make fun of guys who like to put fingers up thier asses.
It's a bummer that The Stranger wants to make an issue of this part of the story, but it won't last and won't be what is remembered by the public. What matters most is that we made a stink about some shitty cops and are seeing affects in the greater world because of it. Say what you will about the media but because of this we got the issue of out-of-control transit cops on the radar of regular folks and an investigation by the PI. And having so much coverage in The Stranger (this posting included) got people who would normally not have heard about this attack because they ignore "the mainstream media" (which is a dumb thing to do, IMO), thinking about issues of police brutality and bike safety.
Plus, and I gotta toot my horn a bit here sorry, getting it in The Stranger first meant that we got our side of the story in the press first and started shaping the debate from the get go. And we won. It's not totally because it was in the media as much as it was, or in the stranger, but all publicity is good publicity.
That said, FUCK YEAH! ZACK WAS VINDICATED! WE FUCKING WIN!

| That's the thing - the Stranger was the ONLY paper reporting the truth from the very beginning, and now he's telling lies and pulling a race card??? WTF??? And thinking that Zack is using his race to just brush it off??? I'm absolutely stunned. I really had some respect for them and now.....yeah let's set him on fire. |

I'm glad they finally made this move. It seemed pretty clear that it would be boneheaded to press charges, but having them acknowledge that fact takes a load off.
Speikers says that this isn't the last thing that they could do to me. We'll meet on Friday, and I'll bring you up to speed when I'm there too.
And as far as Feit's uninformed and inflamatory comments - the article he and Mirk put together was well done (although I would have hoped that they would know that bruising and contusions are not different things...), and I am grateful to them for that. It's pretty clear from the comments that most people put his thoughts at about troll level.
After throwing some poop, I'm willing to give the guy a break, I mean, he has to write for Someguy too.
At least it is still being talked about. I wonder if KC was hoping to delay for long enough for people to forget about the whole thing. |

Zack fought the Law and... ZACK WON!
nice one, mate!
Considering the shitstorm that the KCKops opened upon themselves by their own boneheaded actions (again, 'roid rage? the question lingers), AND the incredible response and united front we presented, they were wise to step off. Let's hope they see the light and refrain from bothering Zack (and CM for that matter) in the future.
Contrary to Feit's inflammatory statements, what real good could have come out of a counter-lawsuit? I don't believe much. Zack wasn't shot, or had limbs broken, etc. I'm quite certain those KCGangstas got a dressing-down by their higher ups for overstepping their bounds and causing a public jurisdiction ("jur-is-my-dick-tion crap!") conflict with SPD.
Upshot? Cops chastened, citizen freed, and Critical Mass will be a huge rolling clown-fest!
Here's to the continuing Wheeled Revolution... |

Nail{ed} it on the head.
See you at CM! This one is for Paulina!
And just so you all know.... My tall bike is named Paulina. A redheaded step child.
I don't view this CM as a celebration of "winning" against the "man, aka KC Cops" but rather a vidication that cycling is fun and right. |

updated on the SLOG;
Westlake Center. 5:30. Today.

Judging from the comments I got a couple of days ago when I reported that the King County Prosecutor’s Office decided not to press charges against Critical Mass cyclist Zack Treisman (which indicated to me that Treisman probably has a good case against the KC undercover detectives who messed him up), I’m not sure CM riders want to hear from me.
You see, in that widely-condemned post, I also groused that Treisman wasn’t pressing charges, and I went on a jag about race and how police brutality isn’t a pressing issue for whites, and so the value of bringing a case against the Sheriff’s Dept. may not have been forefront for Treisman.
I don’t know Treisman. He did not speak to the press. As the story was breaking, I spoke over the phone with Treisman’s girlfriend. During the follow-up coverage, I spoke with Treisman’s attorney. I did see Treisman down at the Sheriff’s dept. And I did randomly see him at a local bar watching the Tour de France. I even exchanged a friendly e-mail with Treisman earlier this week (before my post). But again, I don’t know him. So, singling him out to make my point about race was unfair. However, I stand by my thought that this issue isn’t important in the white community, and the resolution of this drama is evidence of that.
Anyway: The reason I’m dredging all this back up is because today is the first CM bike ride since the arrests last month. It’s at 5:30 at Westlake Center.
Cue Brian May on electric guitar. Freddie Mercury says: “Get on Your Bikes and Ride.” |
