alright, i've got some stuff set up.

if you'd like to donate to zack and jace's defense fund, i will be helping out with that. like joby said, the cost will be pretty substantial, so anything you can contribute would help. there are a few ways to donate.

1) you can use paypal to lant@lantius.org and i'll forward the money on to the trust account.

2) for larger amounts, please send me a check or a money order to:

lee williams
6055 4th avenue ne
seattle, wa 98115

make checks for zack out to: david speikers attorney trust account
and in the memo line put: treisman legal defense

make checks for jace out to: lee williams

3) i'm out at all the .83 events and you can give me checks/cash/money orders then. or, i am also willing to roll out and meet you to pick donations up. just drop me a line at lant@lantius.org.

i know zach appreciates your support.

If I give money to an injured cyclist, I'm being purely altruistic.

I'm giving money to Zack for selfish reasons.
I'm looking to protect my own rights. It's not OK that undercover police knock people of bicycles, start fist fights, and then book people on felony charges.

I urge you to go beyond your normal level of contribution if you possibly can.

Zack's going to need really a lot of money for his legal defense.
I've Nominated Lee Williams to coordinate donations, as he is the most trustworthy person I know.
I'm sure it's fine to contact Jill and Zack directly, but it would be nice to let Lee aggregate donations so Jill and Zack can concentrate on other parts of this.

Hello, I am not a member of your group but I was in the CM ride and observed the assault at very close quarters. I gave a brief written account to J. Bodnar.

Due to the nature of the assault, I am willing to make a sizeable contribution to the defense fund for Zack. However, I am not acquainted personally with Zack or anyone else involved in the incident. I hope nobody will take offense if I ask if it would be possible to make a deposit directly to Zack's account with his lawyer ? If that is OK, I would need to know which law firm is representing him.

Is there a deadline for when the Money is no longer useful? I'm poor until I get another check from the Man on the 10th. I'll happily drop some money to Lee via paypal or in person.

That's entirely resonable. I'll ask Jill to get that information to you. I don't have it.

If Zack gets charged, there will be an ongoing need for money.

Hello everyone -

First, I cannot express the thanks for the outpouring of support, both emotional and financial. My emo levels are off the chart.

LEGAL FUND DONATIONS

Our attorney is David Speikers from Fall City. He has a trust account for this case so any money you donate will be put directly into this account and used to pay David's legal fees.

Lee has volunteered to continue to collect checks. The Paypal account he set up will still be active and any money will be put into the trust account. Please contact Lee to drop off or mail donations.

Make checks out to:

David Speikers Attorney Trust Account

with the memo: Treisman Legal Defense

Again, thank you all!

Jill

Hi everyone,
FYI, Zack's attorney is David Speikers in Fall City. He is a very experienced defense attorney, and also does personal injury and DUI's.

There is no deadline as it will be an ongoing billing process. It will not end in a few days. If we're lucky it will be over if the prosecutors decide to drop the case and we will have a relatively small bill to be paid over the next few weeks. If it becomes a misdemeanor or felony it will be ongoing for months.

Also, it appears that Jace is in need of legal representation and he will have legal fees as well. We are working on securing him an attorney. Joby will have more details.

I had been thinking about having a birthday race in mid-August terminating at my house for a BBQ. Now I'd like to turn it into a fundraiser for Zack and Jace's legal funds. Does anyone know a good date that doesn't conflict with too much else. I was originally thinking a Saturday afternoon/evening. All money collected at race start would go to Zack and Jace's legal fund, along with a donation jar at the BBQ.

I would suggest August 5th (Saturday) as a good weekend for a fundraiser ride... its a cross-quarter day, aka the festival of Lugnassad (lammas), a harvest festival -- half way between the summer solstice and the autumnal equinox at the end of September.

Those were always the traditional festival times back in the days of yore, and always a good day to ride...

That's a wonderful idea Alastair! Thanks so much for offering up your special day as one for others as well. I was also thinking that a race would be a great fundraising event and that if we got Jace and Zack's mugshots those would make great spokecards......

They actually told Zack to stop smiling for the camera when they were taking it. :)

It's on then. I'm thinking the 12th actually, since that falls after I get paid, so I can provide meat, faux-meat, and beer on the house. I'm thinking $10 entry since it's a fundraiser, although I don't want it to be too pricey for people to enter. As there will be a donation jar, perhaps $5 admission, and any extra cash people want to put forward can be jarred. I'll start a new thread on Wednesday with details.

I don't know if Seattle has it, but Columbia County jail has a online database of current inmates that you can browse through, and it has their mugshots.
My brother recently went back in for a parole violation and we found his, he has this big grin on his face.

A couple years back, My friend and I made the mistake of letting a stranger who claimed to be sober drive(since we were way too drunk), a couple miles down the road, she rolled my friends' jeep wrangler on a straightaway. My friend and I were sitting on the side of the highway laughing our asses off, for some reason. I was the only one hurt, i had hit my head on the roof and tore the rotory cuff in my shoulder(thank god for a seatbelt and rollbar, or iw ould not be here). also when the roof came off, the windows blew out in the side of my head. so one side of my head/face was just all blood, as well as my hands/arms(we stopped upside down, and when i unbuckled, i just fell intoa pile of glass). The police wanted to take pictures of us, so we kept posing like we were models. They told us to stop, it was a serious matter. but i swear every picture is just me covered in blood w/ a huge grin. i'm sure i looked pretty effin' crazy.
uh. sorry for rambling.
if this race gets put on, i will probably come up for it, as I've been meaning to make it up lately. I can also contribute.

Assuming that either the charges are dropped or Zack is found not guilty, and there's enough money available to do so, would you consider suing the police? I think it's very important that they are not above the law in cases like this, and unfortunately it sounds unlikely that they will be disciplined by the Sherriff's office.

I am a friend of Zach's in Santa Fe, NM and I would like to thank all of you in Seattle for all the help and support you have given during this screwed up ordeal. Contributions to the defense fund will be coming from New Mexico shortly!

ignoring the issue of whether the defense fund money should be used for this purpose, it's a natural extension of the argument that they entered this fight as citizens that they be charged with criminal assault and battery.
