Re: selecting camping spots for the early crew, I'd like to suggest Downey Creek, the one just on the right past the re-built river crossing. Sulfer Creek is really becoming overgrown. With the high river levels the little beach area we like to chill on wasn't even there when I visited a few weekends ago.
Downey Creek has a nice new beach area accessible via a switch back trail that starts across from the outhouse. Also the site being above the river means it's much less damp. And Western exposure means more sunshine frolicking time. In the DC clearing you might even find some space to chuck a frisbee around.

| pretty sure buck creek is on the left, the north side of the road. downey creek is the one just past the bridge washout that has been rebuilt - up on the bluff. i liked that one, especially if there is a new trail to the river there. |

| This could be really cool if that trail from Sulphur Creek then along Milk Creek still has signs of existing, it's nice forest I've read about. Unfortunately with no car, not the most useful local bus systems, just Friday and Saturday off, and what could easily be a day hike it's kind of a lot. Four wheels update from Tara, Wreyford, Ethan? owell. |

I'm doing my own faction of the Thursday night group, and trying to find someone else who wants to ride with me.
I'm driving to Oso (near Arlington) on Thursday afternoon. I'd like to be parked around 5pm.
I'm biking this route to intercept the Everett Thursday night crew on the Mountain Loop Highway.

On Friday we'll ride on with them towards Suiattle.
I'm doing this so that I have an appropriately placed escape car so that I can make it back home early, but still get some good riding in. Plus the route from Oso over the mountains on dirt roads looks very cool and I've never explored it.
Since this is exploratory I can't guarantee that it really goes through and that we won't be sleeping somewhere odd and not meet up with the Everett crew. If that happens I'll still make sure that you get to Suiattle on Friday. |

| Is it actually 3sp? All the stats I looked up on that bike have it as a 8sp. I don't mind (some) mashing. A rack would be a huge help! |

nope, it is 8sp. The low gear is around 25" (I think), so it would just be a bit of mashing. The bike has 35mm Pasela tires and should handle the dirt just fine.
Jimmy is also checking into being able to ride this option. It'd be great to have some company, I like solo riding but prefer to ride with others on unknown gravel roads.
The only thing that I personally can't guarantee is a ride home from Suiattle to Seattle. I'm doing an abreviated loop and heading home either Friday afternoon or first thing Saturday morning (and if I do that I'd be doing some car shuffling in between). If you wanted to do the full weekend and stay until Sunday you'd need to find carriage on another car back to Seattle.
I'll be home tomorrow after 8:30 if you want to check out the bike. Heather: You should hit me up for camping gear then too. |

I just called the Ranger District, and they suggest those that want to do a day hike Saturday go up the Downey Creek trail instead of riding up further up river to do Sulphur Mountain, as there is still snow for the top 1500 feet of it. Downey Creek Trail will stay below the snow level, yet still be a pretty, just no ridiculously amazing views like the summit of Sulphur. I hiked about half of Sulphur Creek solo a few years back when I woke up earlier than the rest of camp. It's a nice hike, but it doesn't offer the views that I see in Sweeney's photos from the other hike. It mostly offers nice trees and a few views of the creek.
Maybe it got better as you gained elevation.
In my ever changing plans it looks like I'll be with team awesome on Thursday and Suiattle on Friday, but leaving first thing Saturday morning. |

| if you back track a little and ride up green mountain road you might get better views. The Road ends and atrail begins it looks like. Turn on flickr photos in the options of acme mapper helps you picture the views. |

Keylime, it can be 3ish days, I'm coming back on Saturday with a goal of being at home by noon. I could probably get you back to Arlington if you wanted to make it 2ish days and take the bus.
Tomorrow night between 9 and 10 is probably the best time to pick up the bike if that works. Otherwise Thursday right at 3. My schedule is pretty tight this week. |

Heather: The campsite 8 miles in is right after the only concrete bridge that you'll go over after you park. The 1/2 mile before that bridge is a gentle downhill, so you'll know that it is coming.
If you don't see us right there (and we'll be obvious) the next campsite is another 2 miles past that, on the right. That one is a bit less obvious in the dark, but if you get to a second concrete bridge then you've gone too far.
It's very hard to get lost, just don't turn until you find the campground.
The only slightly annoying part of the ride on narrower tires is a sandy section that is flat about 4 miles in.
You might want to bring your new german headlight, that thing is going to be really nice on the Suiattle road. |

Just an FYI for those who haven't been yet: This^ shows you riding all the way to Sulphur Creek.
Downey Creek is the next one to the west before Suplhur, not quite as far in.
