ben country has a long history of rain and thunderstorms.

ben country middlefork, it poured on us all night. added with ben playing with hand guns outside of the tent jacked up on minithins, it was a frightful evening. torrential downpour as i waited for a bus that never came in northbend then hitchiked home

ben country last year, we all huddled under trees as a raging downpour went by overhead a couple miles from the campsite.

i predict the gods will off people this year with lightning. have you been bad?

there was also a huge dumping of rain at south whidbey state park, but it didn't last too long and the ride up was beautiful.

fort flaggler was dry on the ride up, but wet on the way back. maybe that was a remington country for me though, he and i left at 6am or something nuts like that, hours before most people woke up.

Where's all this rain I've been hearing about?

On the real motherfucking forecast for 7 Miles ESE Granite Falls WA; 48.03°N 121.84°W (Elev. 800 ft)

That weather channel shit is worse than useless. Go straight to the actual source that your tax dollars pay for, the forecast is specific to each USGS quad, click around on the map and watch it change: 7-day and Hourly Graph

The forecast has been shifting towards the future, hopefully that trend will continue and the real downpour won't begin until 2am.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know if there is cell phone service there? I may be able to finagle a free weekend but I'd have to make a call early Sunday morning.

i didn't use an odometer but you'd probably need to go a couple miles? the river valley was a pretty serious dead spot.

I'm bringing 'only' half as many sandwiches as last year. Option 1 is peanut butter with candied banana and carrot. Option 2 is melted pepper jack, spinach, and curried lentils.

Have a surprise to share for dinner that should at least provide at least an appetizer for everyone.

I just had a great idea that I'll be too late to execute on.

River Keg.

Can't just have a keg sitting out getting warm--that's a foam party. But if you plunk it down in the glacier fed river, yeahhhhhh.

Next time. Next time.

I misthreaded/forced a pedal into a 15 yr old crank last night. I think I'm fucked. It is in the crank nice and tight with only a very slight wobble, which I could deal with but the idea of getting 100 miles out of it w/o the pedal pulling out is concerning. FUCK. Im going to shwo up at QFC and solicit opinions....FUCK FUCK

Mark wins for quickest mechanical. He didn't make it past the North end of QFC before half his rack fell off.

Ben
so sorry
with a personal invite and all....
Happy birthday
old man with a walking stick
all the camels and horses
blocked the MUJ fighters
the first volley killed most of the animals
the next volley started to cut down human flesh
one horse still alive, held by the the hand of a dead MUJ
the horse carrying a load of ammo
one shot to the case
vaporized the animal

sorry I won't be ........

I swear to god I'll be brewing more this summer, and keg o beer sounds like a capital idea. But that might be more for car camping, not bike camping.

I brought two 3.5 gallon homebrew kegs (neither completely full) on my first point83 ride, stuck in Ortlieb panniers.

I don't brew anymore, but I still have homebrew kegs (mostly 5 gallon ones) and will help transport homebrew on point83 camping trips.
